How to get your home ready for the property market this Autumn

It is well and truly known that Autumn is the busiest time of the year for selling a property. With the summer holidays over, the kids now back at school, and the mornings and nights getting colder and darker, it’s no wonder people are saving their money and enjoying some quiet time at home. Autumn is the perfect time to start looking at the property market and preparing your next move.

If you’re eager to sell your home but unsure how to get it market ready, read our top tips below.

DE-CLUTTER

It is important to declutter as much as you can before potential buyers view your home. Put away unwanted toys the kids have left out and keep personal possessions and photographs out of sight. When people view your property, they want to be able to see the space and visualise themselves living there. You only get one first impression, so make it count! Your estate agent will also take photographs to market your property. A decluttered home always looks more appealing to view than a messy one.

KEEP IT LIGHT

As the mornings and nights get darker, the days of natural sunlight become shorter. A dark room can make a room seem smaller and therefore the property overall could look much smaller than what it is. To get the best out of your viewings find a way to lighten up the home. Open the blinds and pull back the curtains; keep your doors open to allow light to spill out into other rooms. If necessary, rearrange your mirrors or place any spares you have in a dimly lit room. It is also best to hold your viewings during the day rather than in the morning or at night. By doing so, potential buyers can see the home properly when the Autumn daylight is at its best. If you do have a viewing at night, ensure all rooms are well-lit and outdoor lights are on, so the viewers know you are in.

UP YOUR CURB APPEAL

The front of your property is the first thing potential buyers will see when they come to visit. If you have a garden at the front of your home, ensure the grass has been recently cut and remove any fallen leaves or debris that might have found its way onto your garden. If you want to make it more appealing, place some hanging baskets or plant pots beside your door to make the property look welcoming. if you have a garden at the back of your property ensure it is tidy as well. People love gardens and it’s one of the areas of your property most people are interested in seeing especially if they have a family. The same as a room within a home, people want to see how big the garden is and imagine what they could do with the space.
