A day in the life – Property Administration Assistant

Gemma Dawson joined Highland Residential in July and holds a SVQ3 qualification in Business Administration.

Gemma tells us about a typical day in her role as Property Administration Assistant at Highland Residential.

Question 1:
What does an average day in your role look like?

No two days are ever the same. Some days I will help with Mid-Market Rent applications, other days I will focus on Help to Buy applications, sending out all relevant paperwork and requesting funds from the Scottish Government when required. I also assist with LIFT New Supply scheme applications and affordability appraisals and will arrange any viewings.

Question 2:

What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

When I first started working at Highland Residential, my biggest challenge was to learn about the different government schemes and the ones we offer. The job itself is a learning curve and I am still picking up new things as I go along.

Question 3:
What do you like most about working at Highland Residential?

The team are very supportive and always happy to help each other.

Question 4:
What skills do you think are important to have to carry out the tasks in your role?

I think good communication, whether it’s through email or on the phone, is key and having patience whilst completing tasks so that nothing is rushed and is completed correctly.

Question 5:
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in Administration?

I would suggest finding a job that will support you through your training and have the resources required to learn and develop. Learning on the job was the best way for me.

Question 6:
Outside of work, how do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time going to the gym and catching up with friends.
