A day in the life - Factoring Services Coordinator

Miriam Blain has worked for Highland Residential (previously Albyn Enterprises) for 5 years. She is an associate of the Institute of Residential Property Managers.

Miriam tells us about a typical day in her role as Factoring Services Coordinator at Highland Residential. 


Question 1:
What does an average day in your role look like?

As with a lot of jobs every day is different and varied. The day starts by checking the mailboxes for any emails that have come in overnight and dealing with anything urgent. I then check in with our Factoring Officer who is based out in the field. The rest of the day is task based depending on what is required that day/week/month. This can include tasks like paying our suppliers, sending out our client statements, processing client payments, reviewing our spend on each development or costing a new development.


Question 2:

What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

In recent years the legislation surrounding factoring has seen big changes. This is a very positive step forward towards ensuring that factors are always acting in the best interests of the residents. However, the guidelines can mean that we can't action work immediately and this can lead to frustration for us and our customers. I see this as one of the biggest challenges.

What do you like most about working at Highland Residential?

I really enjoy working for Highland Residential as they really appreciate their employees and customers and put them at the heart of all their business operations.

Question 4:
What skills do you think are important to have to carry out the tasks in your role? 

Communication - This underpins everything within my role. It is vital that communication with our customers, suppliers and colleagues is clear and regular to ensure that we are providing the best possible service. As a new and growing business this is something we are striving for.

Question 5:
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in Factoring?

I believe that experience in a customer service role is really valuable. On top of that, doing some research into factoring. The website www.underoneroof.scot is a good place to start.

Question 6:
Outside of work, how do you spend your free time?

Outside of work I like to spend time with my family and friends.
